Rests in Drumset parts

• Nov 11, 2010 - 01:38

Can anyone tell me if it's a bug of whether I'm doing something wrong when writing the bass drum part in drumset notation? all the rests in the bass drum part (voice 2) appear in the space of the staff two spaces above where they should be. Please see attached file. Thank you.

You can drag the rest with your mouse to the correct position. You can also double click the rest and move it with the up and down arrrows of your keyboard.

Thanks for the reply. I understand how to correct the position, but shouldn't the rests default to the correct position on the staff which would be the same space that the notes are written on for the bass drum (voice 2) part? I very much appreciate all the effort that has gone into this program. Keep up the great work!

"shouldn't the rests default to ... the same space that the notes are written on for the bass drum (voice 2) part?"
In this particular instance probably yes, but it is a little more complicated than that when you consider all the possibilities for rests in multi-voice staves (consider non-drum staves where the voice 2 part moves up and down). "Rest positions for multi-voice context" is already listed on the milestones page, but a comprehensive recommendation on how to implement this (rules for all the possible situations) has not been written up yet.

Thank you David, and I do understand the many complexities of trying to do one thing for drumset notation, but then it would not work correctly for other multi-voice parts. In the meantime, we drum teachers and other notators of percussion music just need to manually move all of them. Again, thanks for all your efforts.
