crazy layout
Hi there, first off I have just discovered this program and I think it is awesome but for the life of me I cannot get the layout to work. I have a piano/vocal score with two voices and I can't get it to display more than two staves per page. I have tried using the } stretch thing but in some places the lyrics get pushed up into the stave. Also on some pages the distance between the vocal line and the piano seems to change and I don't know why. The score should really only be around 14-16 pages but it is coming out close to forty. Any pointers would be great. Thank you.

I suggest adding System break and page break where you want. (See Break or spacer ). And then playing with style -> Edit general style -> Page. As I don't know the piece, I will let you put the page break, let us know if you can't get it to work once it's done. 14-16 pages will be hard without reducing the scale of the score in Layout -> Page settings.
On a side note, you can add a space in a lyric element using Ctrl + Space (See Lyrics )

Thanks for your quick reply, it has helped me sort quite a bit of it out, I didn't really understand how the line and page breaks worked. I am still having a bit of a mess all of a sudden the pages will only have two systems per page with a huge gap in between and I can 't seem to see why it is there. I can't seem to close it either, have I don't something weird with the { that I can't seem to see? Any ideas? And thanks again for your help it is appreciated.
I reset the stretch and that seems to have sorted a few things sweet! This program rocks!

Two system per page, it's because there is no room for 3. If you want 3 then you will need to reduce the scaling in Layout -> Page settings.
The gap is due to MuseScore willing to spread the system evenly because they go over the threshold defined in Style -> Edit general style -> Page -> Page fill threshold. When the music goes over this threshold MuseScore try to space the music evenly on the page. If you want to cancel this behavior, just put the threshold to 100%.
