How can I pin down a mid-measure clef?

• Jul 27, 2015 - 12:11

I am trying to recreate this bar from Gershwin's Rialto Ripples with a change of clef in the LH with the first note of the bar.

This I can achieve at first as seen in this screenshot below
G Clef as I want it from 2015-07-27 11:23:54.png

But on closing and reopening the file the "mid-measure clef" (which of course is not actually mid-measure) has become a stave clef replacing the F Clef

I have tried unticking the "Show courtesy" option but this hasn't helped.

I can understand that perhaps starting the LH stave with a G Clef is good practice but appears that what I am trying to achieve is possible as something similar is shown in the example given in Musescore's Handbook on Clef's https://musescore.org/en/handbook/clef-0 See the example given where " the top staff starts with a treble clef and switches immediately to bass clef, then after a note and a rest, changes back to treble clef."

I am using Musescore 2.0.2 in Wine in Debian

I kind of remember this not working, then working, then not working, then working again, etc. See in particular #46036: Clef on first note of system becomes header clef after save and reload, which I just reopened. Note that indeed this only applies for pieces with a C major key signature.

A workaround would be to use an "atonal" key signature rather than C major. Won't work for transposing instruments, but deals with this particular case I guess.

EDIT, hmm, your example has a key signature. Not sure why it isn't working then, it did for me in a similar example I created. Hmm, I guess it works after a *second attempt? Interesting!

I've just uploaded Rialto Ripples if you want to have a look. The Trio is on page two. https://musescore.com/user/58480/scores/1081496#

I saved it with the mid-measure clef where I wanted it yet on uploading it to Musescore.com the F clef is now missing. Although the F clef returns on deleting the mid-measure G Clef highlighted below.

At first I chose a Section Break before the Trio to avoid Courtesy signatures but switched back to a Line break when I was problem solving the mid-measure clef issue.

I tied it on a recent build (48f066c) and the clef change is retained on saving and opening again BUT only at the beginning of the score. After a horizontal frame the clef gets lost after saving.
