Cross-staff beaming plus.

Hallo,

I am trying to write a piece of piano music that uses cross-staff beaming, but I want all the notes on just one of the staves (the treble) to fall under the umbrella of an 8ve-up line. Is this possible?

Thanks.

Yes... I think. Could you be a bit more specific? Do any of the examples in the attached match what you mean, for instance? If you could even write it, scan it and post the image it might help because I am wondering where the need for cross-staffing comes in when combined with ottava.

Are you asking if stanmdard notation supports this, or if there is a way to make MuseScore's internal playback do this? I suspect the answer to both questions is "no". Which is to say, even if you could get MuseScore's internal playback to do this, the people reading your score probably wouldn't understand it that way. You are probably better writing the bottom staff down an octave as well so the line can apply to both staves, or just use individual 8va's over each note.

If you want the chords two octaves apart (us that what you want?) then maybe best to not cross-staff beam but just have separate chords with the top staff 8va'd? I think it looks like it sounds (detached, skipping) but I get confused with the cross-staff beaming.
