Playback - disable dynamics
I've added performance dynamics (p, mp, f etc) to my score (Bellissima) and didn't realise before I posted it that they would be "active" on playback . It sounds awful (sound levels change very crudely).
Can you please help with the following questions:
1/Is there a way to disable/switch off performance dynamics for playback?
2/I've tried removing them but the score retains a "memory" of them on playback - is there a way to delete this "memory"?
3/How can I replace my posted score with an amended version?
Many thanks for your help.
Regards
Jim

1 no there is no way to don't playback dynamics
2 remove all dynamics and put a mf at the beginning of your piece. Delete again if you want.
3 if you posted your score on musescore.com just go to the edit tab. If you posted your score here on the musescore.org forum, you can't amend it
Btw, if your score is meant to be play by musicians, they will not care about ow it sounds in Musescore, but they will use the dynamics... So removing them is maybe not a good idea.

Thank you Lasconic
One that has the dynamics as you want them to print, the other with dynamics set up for computer playback.

Thanks John.
Actually I've since had an idea to cut and paste a suitable font from elsewhere and I find that OpenOffice "Writer" (freeware) has an "Opus Text" font which includes the p, mp, f etc dynamic markings in the correct italicised form for musical scores. Hopefully this will give the score dynamic markings that look exactly the same as the Musescore dynamics but which are "inactive" on playback.

You might want to use the mscore1 font packaged into MuseScore instead. Just enter a normal text and pick mscore1 as your font.

Thanks for this Lasconic. I suspected there must be a simpler way. I may send a suggestion to expand the manual to cover this as I've not found any explanation about this. Also I may suggest that if future Musescore updates are able to "read" crescendo and decrescendo markings on playback (in order to give a smoother transition between loud and soft) then this whole issue would be sorted.
Thanks again.

I've solved the problem by doing this:
- select each dynamic marking (p, mp etc) and right-click to open menu
- select MIDI Properties
- change Velocity value to the same number for each dynamic e.g. "80"
- click OK
Bingo!!! Playback will now be at the same volume throughout the piece.

As a subsection under "Sound and Playback". There's an existing section on "Tempo" that looks analogous, and could serve as a template for another called "Dynamics".
I clicked on "Edit", but couldn't figure out how to add a new section. I didn't want to risk making a mess, so I left it alone.

Here is the page http://musescore.org/en/handbook/dynamics
Go ahead and edit it. It's better not using "you" in the handook and keep explanation very short.

I just copied and pasted the "Tempo" contents, and edited it. Please have a look, and correct it if it need fixing.
