Problem with multi rests

• Oct 15, 2015 - 02:25

I'm having trouble with the multi rests. Some rests don't combine with the multi rests and I can't fix it.

Do you mean in the score as it is, or when you generate parts? The full score has no empty sections where multi-measure rests apply. In parts, the alto sax part certainly does, and seems to work fine. The last grouping of measures (from measure 28 on) in alto sax are split into 3 groups because of the rehearsal marks (37 and 81).

If I'm completely off base, you'll have to be more specific.

That seems to be from a different score, or a different version of this one, anyhow. The score you posted doesn't have parts, and even if I generate parts, the saxophone part has no notes after measure 28, and the mmrests work just fine starting in that measure (a 9 bar rests to measure 37 where there is a rehearsal mark, then 44 measures to the next rehearsal mark at 81, then 36 bars to the end.

Hmmm...
That last attachment is one crazy score. Have you listened to the audio playback? It plays audio during rests! How did you generate this score? It seems like an orphaned sax file - without the other parts!

To fix, I would simply copy the part into a new score - just don't do a 'select all' when you copy, as you will get an exact copy. Only select the first to last measures and paste those.

As mentioned, it looks like you are using invisible staves as a substitute for the actual part feature, and that's the source of the problem. if you use the actual part feature (File / Parts), it is not only a ton easier, but mmrests work as expected. As it is, it's content in the invisible staves that is breaking up the mmrests. This may well be a bug, but then, this isn't what invisible staves were designed to be sued for, and it's entirely possible that in other situations one might want this behavior. Probably not, though.

@spartan462...
You don't need to create individual parts by making all other instruments invisible in your score and then invoking multi-measure rests.
Go to menu item: File -> Parts then click on 'New All' and parts will be generated by MuseScore, one part per new tab.
The alto sax part (and others) will come out the way you originally wanted - with combined multimeasure rests.
