Midi files
Lately files that I create by saving my work as .mid files are not recognized by any music-playing software. Other types of files (flac, pdf) are created successfully. Unfortunately, I really need the midi files. Is anyone familiar with this issue and has the solution? Thank you!

So, from within MuseScore, you export as a MIDI file? What version of MuseScore?
Please attach one .mscz and its exported .mid file.

Version 2.
The file is created but when I try playing it I get the following message: "No suitable decoder module: VLC does not support the audio or video format "MIDI". Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this." I have absolutely no idea what this is about.
It is strange because a few days ago I was able to play midi files.
I tried adding the extension manually, didn't work.

What version of VLC?
It might have something to do with this:

Also, what OS? There is a glitch in some versions of MuseScore when using Windows XP (ancient and unsupported!) that sometimes requires you to explicitly enter the extension when exporting files.
Your MIDI plays fine for me in Windows Media Player, Anvil Studio, and also MPC-HC (Media Player Classic Home Cinema).
I no longer have VLC, and don't recall if it supports MIDI playback.
Try a different app. for playback.

A single MIDI link can carry up to sixteen channels of information, each of which can be routed to a separate device.

Yes, that's the definition of MIDI. I don't think anybody asked what MIDI meant, but thank you anyway.
