Play back crescendos and decrescendos, etc.

It would be cool if this program could play back crescendos and decrescendos, accelerandos and rallantandos, and slurs. If it does play slurs, it's very difficult to hear. Also, if someday, musescore could have better sound files built in. This may require our computers to be more powerful, I guess.

There's already an open issue requesting crescendo playback, so hopefully that will happen at some point. As for sound samples, you can install any soundfont you like, just see the Synthesizer window. MuseScore ships with a small one simply to keep size down.

Very cool on the crescendo/decrescendo playback. Yes, I tried without success to install an improved soundfont. There was something that I did wrong. Marc, would you please recommend an excellent string soundfont, the best place to download it from, and the step-by-step? I tried using the procedure in the musescore guidelines w/out success. Thanks.

The details on installng a soundfont may be dependent on your OS. But on Windows Vista, at least, the instructions in the Handbook work for me. Find a soundfont online somewhere, download it, unzip if if necessary (and it's almost always necessary), then in the MuseScore synthesizer window, select that soundfont. Next time you start playback, it should use that soundfont. What specifically went wrong?

I'm not really an expert on the different soundfonts, and I tend to be more focused on winds than strings, but I understand the Merlin Gold soundfont is pretty well thought of (and it sounds pretty decent overall to me). The FluidR3 font linked to in the handbook is also supposed to be especially good, although it is gigantic. The GeneralUser soundfont is not bad as a reasonably compact choice.
