A Quick Request
Would it be possible for someone to take the attached finale file, and convert it to Music XML, or even a Musescore file? I don't need you to clean it up or anything (if needed), I just need it converted because I don't have finale. Just unzip the file, then open in finale, and save it in a different format, a format readable by musescore.

This brings up an interesting feature request: wouldn't it be great if we could send (upload) Finale, Sibelius or Capella files to musecore.org and automatically get back an xml or mscz?
Or maybe a feature for musescore.com, available for a fee?

I have no idea what the legalities would be, but on the face of it, this seems like a great idea to me. I could also imagine folks who are unable/unwilling to spring for a Pro account making their services available cleaning up imported scores for others for a fee. As in, "I clean up this imported score for you if you buy me a Pro account".

Legitimat owners of Sibelius, Finale, Capela, could earn some money from it, to compensate for the costs they had when they bought it (and still have to keep it current). Esp. developers who might have bought it just to be able to compare with MuseScore.

how there would be legal issues other than income tax. I can't believe that in the ULAs there is a restriction on using legitimate programs in a commercial manner.

You're probably right; certainly if we think in terms of individuals using their own personal copies of Finale or Sibelius to provide a commercial service. I was thinking more about the setting up of an automated server. If a web service were set up that allowed any random person to access functionality that one would ordinarily have to pay for, that could possibly violate terms of use. Consider, what if someone set up Finale on a machine running a remote desktop server, and then allowed anyone to access that computer via a remote desktop client. You'd be essentially making Finale available to anyone. So there must be language in the agreement to cover that sort of extreme case. The interesting question would be if a server that offered only a subset of Finale's functionality would also be forbidden.
