I can think of no way to help you based on this post.
At least attach the piece you are trying to playback.

1. Computer speakers turned on, and operating system sounds working (not muted)?
2. Go to menu item: View -> Synthesizer and make sure you see a soundfont (e.g. FluidR3Mono_GM.sf3) listed. Also make sure the synthesizer's volume slider is up.

Ah, the play button is not highlighted, nor is pause, or any of the other play settings. I can edit the piece, but not play it back. Synthesizer is an option for me to choose in the view menu, but I cannot choose it.

If synthesizer and play buttons are grayed out, try #3 above (factory settings).

Thank you. It worked, but then I opened another score and it stopped working. I could not get it to work after factory resetting it.
