Ties that go to rests or empty space
In classical guitar music (don't know about other instruments), it's valid to have a note tie that goes to a beat in the measure where there's a rest. The idea is for the performer to let the note ring as long as possible before the rest occurs, or to have an "implied" sustain of the note. This does not appear possible in Musescore without tying to a real note. It would be a nice feature for classical guitar.

This is a fairly common notation for plucked strings, percussion, and occasionally piano (in combination with sustain pedal)
You can use a slur which can be bound to chords and rests. Ties have a special semantic in mscore which cannot easily be extended. Slurs can be edited to look like ties.
