31-TET retuning plugin

• Feb 16, 2017 - 03:59

I've recently made a plugin which allows playback of compositions in 31-TET (31 notes per octave).

The link to source is here: https://github.com/euwbah/musescore-31-tet-plugin/blob/master/31-TET.qml

The accidentals used are as follows:

Double flat - 5 steps down
3/4-tone flat (looks like 'db') - 4 steps down
flat with down arrow - 3 steps down
flat - 2 steps down
natural with down arrow / flat with up arrow - 1 step down

natural with up arrow / sharp with down arrow - 1 step up
sharp - 2 steps up
sharp with up arrow - 3 steps up
3/4-tone sharp (sharp with three vertical lines) - 4 steps up
double sharp - 5 steps up

Custom key signatures need to be added into the dialog in order to be applied. Make a selection before retuning to retune and use a particular key signature for a particular section of a song. If no selection is made, the whole score will be retuned as such.

I don't think many of you will find this plugin useful, but it is definitely an interesting experiment nonetheless haha.

Hi!

I downloaded your plugin, which seems quite interesting. My problem is that it won't show up in the plugin menu even if I enabled it in the plugin manager window. Should I install anything else other than the plugin itself? I'm using Musescore 2.0.3 in Windows 7. By the way, do you have any plans on creating other plugins with different octaves division (19-edo, 24-edo, etc...)?

Hi, I'm having the same problem as TalesBotechia unfortunately. I downloaded your app and it appears in the "Plugin Manager" window, but the comment section on it is blank and it doesn't appear in the plugins menu. I tried copying and pasting your qml into the "Plugin Creator" window and I get the following error message when I click Run:

>> "creating component failed
>> line 2: module "QtQuick.Controls" version 1.4 is not installed"

I'm using MuseScore 2.1 with Qt 5.4.2, on Windows 10. I'm not a programmer so I don't know how to solve the problem.

If you could please help me make your plugin work, I would be very grateful. I've actually been wanting to compose in 31 tones for a long time so your plugin is a Godsend for me. :)

Dear matt28,
thank you very much for this plugin! I have tried it on two operating systems. On Linux Mint it works just fine - thanks again! -, but there seems indeed to be an issue with the Windows version (Win7 64-bit). As subarctic_composer describes above, the comment section in the plugin manager stays blank, and it does not show up in the plugins menue.
All the best!

i have installed the plugin but it doesnt seem to work:
The intervals C/E and C /Fb sound completly the same while the first one should sound pure and the second very awfull (the same as in meantone)

Dear Matt
i have tried the plugin but it doesnt seem to work.
The intervals C/E and C/Fb just sound the same but like in meantone the first one should sound pure and the second very awfull

Your example does work here. How is your setup? Do you use the internal synthesizer with sfz fonts or with sf2/3 fonts?
From what I can tell retuning does not work with midi-out to
external players (unfortunately).
