Rehearsal marks move after saving score

• Apr 30, 2017 - 09:02

When I add a rehearsal mark on the first note in a line, the mark correctly appears at the beginning of the line, like this.

However, when I save and re-open the score, the rehearsal mark appears directly above the note, obscuring any chord symbols there, like this.

Am I doing something wrong, or is this a bug?

Thanks for your reply; however, the item you cite appears to be a different issue. That item refers to changes in positioning from a previous version, but my issue occurs when I create a new score in the current version (2.0.3).

When I add a rehearsal mark, the program automatically positions it correctly (at the left edge of the system, just to the right of the bar number), but when I save and re-open the score, the rehearsal mark has moved (to the right) and obscures the chord symbol at the beginning of the measure.

I am using v2.0.3.

I reverted to factory settings just now, and it is still the same.

I have found that the issue occurs differently with different templates.

1. With the default template:
(a) when I add a rehearsal mark on the first note in the line, the program automatically places the rehearsal mark obscuring the chord symbol above the note ...
1a Default template auto position when added.JPG

... but (b) if I manually move it to the edge of the system ...
1b Default template manual position before save.JPG

... then (c) when I save and re-open the score, the rehearsal mark has not moved.

2. With the Jazz Lead Sheet template:
(a) when I add a rehearsal mark on the first note in the line, the program automatically places the rehearsal mark at the edge of the system ...
2a Jazz Lead Sheet template auto position when added.JPG

... but (b) when I save and re-open the score, the rehearsal mark has moved to the right and is obscuring the chord symbol on the first note.

I can reproduce this - it happens only when using the "Jazz" template or otherwise setting the default text alignment to right, and then only if you add your rehearsal marks by clicking a note/rest in the score then double-clicking the palette icon. It works fine if you use Ctrl+M to add the rehearsal mark, or if you drag and drop from the palette.

For the record, there are some special rules for position of rehearsal mark that are probably involved here. The norm in most styles of music is for rehearsal marks to come *after* the clef / key / time signature. It's mostly in jazz where rehearsal marks are moved to the beginning of the line, in order to avoid chord symbols. So the "jazz" templates set a different alignment for rehearsal marks than other templates do in order to make this happen: the default is center, but the jazz templates use right.

In your file, the text *style* is set to right - the default for the jazz template - but your specific rehearsal mark has overridden that, with the alignment set to center in text properties. That appears to be a side effect of using the double click method of adding the rehearsal mark. Not sure why it appears to work at first then changes on save/reload. Could you file a bug report to the issue tracker? For example, using Help / Report a Bug from within MuseScore.

Solution for now - select all rehearsal marks (right click one, Select / All Similar Elements) and then press the "Reset Text to Style" button in the Inspector. That fixes existing rehearsal marks. And in the future, use Ctrl+M or drag and drop for rehearsal marks until this issue is fixed.
