A few issues on Mac

• Jun 12, 2017 - 22:22

Minor bug, but with MuseScore 2.1 and some versions below it when I first open a score and try to zoom in it won't zoom in. I have to first select a note or rest in the score and then zoom in for it to work. This doesn't happen on Windows.

Another thing that happens when I first open a score, if I press play immediately after opening it the sound plays back but I don't see the blue bar going across the score, nor are any notes highlighted in blue or green or any other color according to their voice like they usually are. Again, if I click on a note or rest before pressing play the blue bar is there and the notes are highlighted as the score plays.

Also, if you have so many notes in one measure that it exceeds the width of the page, the measure doesn't continue onto the next system without a line after the first system that the measure is part of, the music simply goes off the page while the measure lines stop at the margin.

If two different voices share the same note and but hold it for different lengths it will only play the first voice duration, at least I think so, or else it's the shortest note duration. Either way in the instance at the bottom of the post it plays the shortest note and doesn't hold it like the second voice says to if that makes sense. It could also possibly because the long note has a marcato marking over it but I don't think so.

During playback of trills the last note of the trill is held on to even when other notes have started playing after the trill is over. This seems to happen randomly and I don't know what causes it.

If I split a measure before the selected note, after I click off of the note it stays blue. If I click on other notes they will also be blue if I select them in addition to the blue note that I split the measure before. The only way to fix this is to click on the permanently blue note and click off of it again. Only then will it turn black.

Thanks for your feedback! In the future, it is better to open separate threads for separate problems - makes the discussion much easier to follow. For now, I will number your issues:

1) Zoom issue on score load. How are you loading the score - menu, toolbar icon, shortcut, double click in Finder, etc? And how are you trying to zoom? Shortcut or dropdown menu? And what version of macOS? Can anyone else confirm this behavior?

2) Playback issue on startup. Seems likely to be related - somehow the score doesn't have full focus. Again, can anyone else this behavior?

3) Measure does not automatically split. This is not a bug, nor is it Mac-specific. If you wish to split a measure across systems, you need to do so manually, using Edit / Measure / Split.

4) Overlapping notes play shortest duration. This is a known issue, also not Mac-specific, see #12971: Same note in different voices and lengths plays only the length of the shortest note.

5) Trill playback. If the note is tied, this is a known bug, also not Mac-specific - see #77376: Trills and other ornaments play incorrectly on tied notes. If this is not it, please start a new thread with a more descriptive title and attach the specific score you are having trouble with.

6) Selection glitch on split measure. I can confirm this on Windows as well (FWIW, very few bugs will turn out to be system-dependent, since the vast majority of code is shared). I've seen a few other similar glitches but don't think there is an issue already filed for this. Please report this officially via the issue tracker, using the link in menu at right or "Help / Report a Bug" from within MuseScore.

Okay, I will post in separate threads next time.

1) This happens whenever I open a score in every fashion that you described, also using Open Recent. It also happens when I start up MuseScore. It doesn't zoom in regardless of whether I use the keyboard shortcut or the drop-down menu (I usually use the drop-down menu).

2) This also happens however I open a score or when MuseScore starts up.

6) I did not know about the issue tracker, as that first post was the first time I've ever used this forum, but I will report it. Thanks!
