New download
I am currently working with Musescore 2.1 and would like to download 2.3. Will it replace the one I have been using and thus lose all the compositions I have been working on?

If you download the new version, 1.3, your scores are safe.
If you have any doubts:
Create a new folder (also on the desktop) and copy your songs.
Then install and you can put the pieces in place.

Thanks very much Shoichi.
Hi Shoichi you will probably be able to help me again with this problem. I have written an a cappella four part song and since putting in the lyrics, it has gone from three pages to seven! I have looked at the How To video to try and reduce the stave width as well as the systems width without success. These are the steps I follow: Style - edit general style - page. Then I have decreased the numbers for width below the lyrics, then press allow, then ok, and nothing happens. I follow the same procedure for stave and systems width too and sometimes the last page systems join each other and I have to undo it again. Where am I going wrong. Katy mentions something called global settings on the video where do I find that?
Please help.

You can attach the file. Mscz?
At the bottom, where it says "File attachments"
If there is a lot of text would be better:
Ctrl + L to insert the first verse;
Select the last measure and insert a vertical frame;
Within it, insert one or two horizontal frames;
Add there the verses later.

Hello Shoichi,
Thanks for your suggestions but I have only one line of lyrics and I need to get 3 staves on one page to minimize the number of pages.

If there is not a problem, attach the file to help us better understand.
Do an experiment:
Layout / Page Settings, select A3.
If it is unreadable, but I do not know how it is printed.
The original file is three pages, saved in PDF format (A3)

Two things happen when you enter lyrics that almost always cause a score to expand:
- notes need to be spread apart further horizontally to make room for the syllables placed under them
- staves needed to be spread apart further vertically to make room for the lyrics placed between them
This is natural pretty much unavoidable, but you can definitely tweaking settings to keep the final size under comtrol. Posting the score helps. First thing to do is choose an appropriate staff size. then make sure you aren't wasting too mich space vertically, fitting only two sustems and a lot of extra white space on a page when lesser staff or system spacing woild allow three. Also selecting all and reducing stretch can help tighten things up.

Thanks for the suggestions, my problem is that whatever I do does not seem to work. Please see my first comment on how I have been doing it. I have changed all the numbers for staves and systems and nothing moves.

As we've said several times, posting the score helps - all we can do is guess without it.
But we can sometimes make good guesses. Right now, I'm guessing you aren't understanding the roll played by the Page Fill Threshold in your general style / page settings. Any page more than this full will automatically be stretched out to fill the page, so indeed, it will appear your system distance changes are not having any effect. At least, until you finally reduce it by enough to fit another system in.
But it's also possible your staff size is simply too big to allow three systems, no matter what changes you make to distances between staves or systems. In which case, you will need to reduce your staff size in layout / page settings. It's also possible you have inadvertently created blank lyric lines that are taking up space unnecessarily. In which case, you need to delete those blank lines by finding and the invisible lyrics you've inadvertently created. But we can't know any of these things without seeing your score - the actual MSCZ file, not just a picture of it.
