installing MuseScore on Mandriva 2010
I am a fairly new LInux user and am gradually tracking down Linux software tools to replace previous Windows ones. I came across the mention of MuseScore in this very interesting article;
http://trombonechamp.wordpress.com/2009/12/20/five-things-free-software…
However it is not avaialble through the Mandriva software repository, can anyone advise me on downloading a package that I can install on my system? I will need easy instructions(!)
thanks

You may want to contact some users who have been using MuseScore on Mandriva. A search on Mandriva reveals who is working on Mandriva. You can contact users via the contact tab on their profile page.
thanks for quick reply, I have actually found MuseScore in the Mandriva software repository, it appeared under the name mscore and is version 0.9.3 - so I will start off with that
I'm sure I will be back on the forum asking for more advice!!

0.9.3 is quite old. A lot of improvements on stability has been done with 0.9.4 and 0.9.5.

as a fairly new Linux user, I have not attempted to compile a program so am stuck with what is on offer from the Mandriva repository at the moment
however I have sent an email to a forum contributor who uses Mandriva and has updated his version to 0.9.4 asking for help and advice on doing this myself
what I have experienced of MuseScore so far has impressed and pleased me, it seems fairly straightforward to use but has a wealth of features needed for producing well-presented and comprehensive music scores

If possible, I would recommend 0.9.5 over 0.9.4.
the hardest thing to figure out is that they have it packaged under mscore, ARGGHHH!!!
there is a 1.0 version available for 2010.2 - google easyurpmi to try to find repositories, then use mcc (if you open up a terminal and type 'mcc' you'll get to it - i'm not sure how you would get there with a menu) then you can choose which repositories you use (after you've installed them from a place like http://urpmi.mandriva.ru/index_old.php?language=en - that looks pretty correct, but i can't vouch for the accuracy.
