Backup files disturb, how to avoid?

Backup-files gather in my project folder and lead to confusion: When using Menu > open file, they are listed at the top, and therefore irritate the visibility of alphabetical sequence. MuseScore can open them normally, which is not bad, but I sometimes have opened the wrong file, specially when I work on several versions of a score, because only some of them are listed as backup.
How can I avoid them in the folder? Is there a setting for the backup files path, so that they can be generated in a sub-folder of my project folder?
