Exporting MDL Soundfonts into Logic Pro X

• May 30, 2020 - 03:11

I'm trying to Export the Musescore Drumline soundfonts into Logic Pro X so I can write drumline music in real time to further edit in Musescore but I can't figure out how to make them open in Logic's Sampler. I tried going to Extensions > mdl > 1.3.1 and duplicating the sfzs folder onto my desktop, and renaming each file with ".sf2" in place of ".sfz" but this doesn't work. I tried the same thing but instead renaming ".sfz" to ".esx" and ".patch", neither of which worked. Has anyone done anything like this before or know what I would need to do to make this happen?

I've been calling my bike "my plane" for the last weeks, but it still fails to fly..

Renaming something to something different doesn't convert it. It just tries to treat as as the different thing, but the contents aren't changed at all.
So what you'll need to do is figure out which sound format Logic Pro X wants, then take the MDL samples (the actual sound ogg files) and convert them with a program that understands both formats

Thanks so much for the response! I think that the Soundfont format for MDL isn't compatable with logic instruments and I think I would have to recreate the soundfonts from scratch. But I figured out that what I need could be done a much easier way with a result that's not perfect but works for what I need. Made a chromatic scale at the default tempo as half notes in musescore and changed the instrument to the MDL soundfonts I needed and exported each of them as wav files with the Reverb turned all the way to dry in the synthesizer. Then, I put the wave files in the Quicktime sampler, changed to splice, started it at A0 (or A-1), changed the splice points to beat divisions, and changed the divisions to half notes. This way all the sounds in the soundfont would play the same midi note as the Actually are in Musescore. I thought I'd share my process just in case anyone else was thinking of trying what I did. Thanks for the insight!
