MIDI Broken on Elementary OS 5.1
I'm trying to connect a Alesis V49 USB MIDI controller to Musescore and it just won't work. I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling. Forums I found online said to check the Port Audio box and select the ASLA API. Only problem is, the boxes are blank. If I try closing the preferences window with Port Audio selected, Musescore crashes. Yes, I ensured that the keyboard was plugged in before I launched Musescore.

MuseScore does not claim compatibility with Elementary OS as far as I can tell?
Oh, I see, it is derived from Ubuntu, so the AppImages should work

Yes Elementary is based on Ubuntu 18. Musescore runs fine, I just can't get it to work with my MIDI controller.

Maybe #307329: MIDI Input does not work on Linux?

Using the appimage with the workaround described in the post you liked did the trick. Thanks!
Is that the AppImage? It is usually your best chance of success, as opposed to any of the other of ways of installing MuseScore on Linux.
