Playback sounds strange
Some notes do not play, and others play too long. I can't figure out why.
Besides, the second and fourth 8th notes of measure two are somehow "linked" so when I select one and move up with the arrow so does the other. Again, I have no clue why this happens. What am I misssing out here?

Yes, they are tied. The tie has been deformed to look like a slur, but select it and press Ctrl-R to reset it to default position.
It's the same thing in m4 and m5 and across the entire score. It seems ties have been misused to attempt to create slurs.
So the solution is to remove all those ties and replace them with slurs instead.
