repeat playback error
I have just begun using Musescore. I am having a problem with two consecutive phrases with two voltas at the ends of each. (See image) In the second phrase, the playback stops completely at the end of the second phrase, with no repeat. What am I doing wrong?

Please share the score. You might need to set the playlist of that first 2nd volta (!?) to 0 (rather than 2)

Thanks for your prompt reply. I will share the score when it is fully copied. The other comment shows the handbook example "repeatXX" which is exactly what I have done. I cant figure it out.

If the example plays back fine, then as requested; please share your score.
Otherwise there's nothing more we can do for you currently.

That score was last saved in 3.3.4
As mentioned in the previous reply, update to 3.5.2 and all will be fine. The way voltas are interpreted was improved in 3.5.1

Both the "preferences" and "help" menus do not provide an "update" or "automatic update" box to check in the 3.3,4 version.

Help has a "Check for update" entry
Unless you're using the Windows Store version? That is lacking the latest updates indeed. I believe 3.6 will be approved for it, but that's still a few weeks away..
You can just download the latest version directly from this site.

I have uninstalled the first download from my computer and installed a new one directly from this site. It shows 3.5.2 as the downloaded version. Same problem...

Interestingly enough, the file you attached plays back just fine without any changes on my 3.5.2 installation.

No. Your example file has the same error on playback.

These update options indeed don't in the Microsoft Store version (not allowed) and we're indeed woefully behind in providing an update for that...

That is what I have done twice, with the same error with the voltas.

And Help About claims this to be 3.5.2?
Try reverting to factory setting, also in the Help menu

The file listing in the download folder on my computer shows 3.5.2. Help About shows 3.3.4. I have followed your advice and reverted to factory setting. The error remains. Is it possible to correct this, or must I abandon this score.

If Help > About shows 3.3.4, it is 3.3.4 and that explains the bug you see

You need to not just download 3.5.2, but also install it (and probably uninstall 3.3.4)

I assumed that by downloading Musescore from the site, it would automatically be the updated version. Both downloads from the site were 3.3,4. How can I be certain that I am downloading 3.5.2 from the site?

No download ever installed itself automagically
While you certails also could download 3.3.4 from the site, you would have difficulties finding it. Finding 3.5.2 is very easy though, it just at the top of https://musescore.org/en/download, just press that big blue button labled "Download for Windows (64-bit)"

Very strangely, I did exactly that minutes ago. Looking at Help About in the new download, it reads, believe it or not, 3.3.4.

I believe it, but then you have't download, installed and started 3.5.2, but still/again started the (already installed) 3.3.4

You have downloaded the installer, you need to double click it to actually start the installation of 3.5.2.
Then afterwards you'll need to make sure that you are actually using the shortcut to start 3.5.2 and not your windows store version.

@theoradic... Apparently you are running Windows.
See:
https://musescore.org/en/handbook/install-windows#install
...and ignore the part about the Windows Store.
Follow those instructions starting from:
"Otherwise you can get the Windows installer from the download page of the MuseScore website...."

Success! Thank you all for your patience with a beginner. The installer has two places to click to begin installation. One in Microsoft Store and one outside of it. The repeat functions perfectly. Thanks again.
