Playback
When I use playback to hear my work, all notes longer than a quarter play as multiple quarter notes. I'm new to this updated version of MS. Never happened in previous version. What's happening?

I'm not hearing 1/4 notes for notes longer than that. If anything, it's very legato and quarter notes of the same pitch don't have enough separation, but that is normal for MuseScore.

I created an identical note sequence in MS 3.5.2 and my previous version MS 2.3.2 and they sound exactly the same. I guess this means i'm imaging the beat effect on longer notes. Sorry for the false alarm. Thanks for your reply.

It's possible it's somehow related to your system setup or soundcard. There is always some variation from one soundcard type to the next. I'm no expert on these differences though.
I can sort of hear it and then if I close my eyes I don't hear it so in my case it is an illusion.

FWIW, I doubt you are imagining it - most samples are looped (eg, just a 1-second sample looped if you want to play a note for 4 seconds), so there could potentially be a subtle "pulsing" to the sound at the loop point. A well-designed soundfont tries to minimize the effect of this, choosing loop points where the effect won't be noticeable. But I have no doubt that for certain notes in certain sounds, if you listen hard enough, you would be able to hear the effect.
