Aesthetics, figured bass - help?

• Jan 2, 2021 - 04:46

Hi all, this is my first proper attempt with MuseScore. Was a Sibelius user many years ago, gave up for a while.

I've transcribed the flute and through-bass for this Mancini sonata, because the original 1724 engraving on IMSLP, although full of character, is pretty hard to read.

So, I've got my head around basic note entry, and I've tried using the figured bass figures, but everything's a little... ugly at the moment. I've put in some system breaks, but I've not really figured out how to massage layout at all.

Any suggestions to improve score layout, aesthetics, and most importantly, readability?

Figured bass above is more common than I thought when I asked the question about how to move it in the link Shoichi provided.

Follow those instructions, but I find it necessary to move the figured base down on a system by system basis to keep staves from being too far apart. I select one figured bass, shift + click another and all between are selected. I then change the Y offset in the inspector.
