Musescore will not recognize my MIDI Keyboard
Hi!
My name is Kira, and I have a Keystation 49 MK3 keyboard that plugs in to my computer via USB port, but when I go to preferences then IO then MIDI input, to make sure I can input notes with the keyboard on Musescore, the MIDI input drop down menu does not recognize my keyboard. Can anyone help?
Thanks!

What operating system you're using? Did you following all these instructions, especially first connecting your Midi keyboard before starting MuseScore to select it: https://musescore.org/en/handbook/note-input#midi-keyboard? Maybe it's helps finally to restart MuseScore again after this step.

I'm using Windows 10, and I did follow the instructions, it worked for a new score, but when I edited the new score to have a grand staff and a title it recognizes my keyboard but still will not input notes.

Maybe excuse my silly question, but could it be that you didn't have activate the note input mode before - in the toolbar or with shortcut "n"?

I did have it activated, it was that I need to select the correct instrument (a keyboard) when setting up the staff, but thank you

Actually, I figured out how to fix that problem. Thanks for the help! I do have another question though... do you know if there's a way for me to just play and it will enter the notes as whatever I play them as? Or do I have to manually switch to a whole note if I am going to play a whole note?

At time there are only these note input modes available: https://musescore.org/en/handbook/note-input-modes - not a real-time mode, which recognizes pitch and duration of a note as well.
If I remember correct I read about, that's maybe possible to record it with a DAW, quantize it, export it as midi, to import it with MuseScore.

Ah okay, that helps. I've been trying to find an easier program to play live and have it transpose what I play but this could work for now. Thanks for the help :)

You will generally get better results if you use a program designed for real-time MIDI recording - "sequencer", or "digital audio workstation" - to record your playing, then use its facilities to "quantize" the result (correct all the little rhythmic discrepancies that exist because you're not a robot), then save as a standard MIDI file, and import that into MuseScore.
But still, expecting to get readable sheet music for any but the most simple music (think mary had a little lamb played with one finger) is about as unrealistic as taking your phone into a move theater and asking Siri to transcribe the entire dialogue to produce a readable script.

Hi! I have the same problem that you were having. What's the solution you found?
