Add/remove an instrument part-way through a piece?

Hello everyone,
I'm working on a piano piece that starts and ends with only the right hand. I hate to waste space with an empty staff, so is there a way to remove the left hand at the beginning and end of the piece without jeopardizing the portions I've already composed for the left? Still figuring this system out. I've used Finale in the past.
