Audio playback and Synthesizer greyed out

• Jan 20, 2021 - 09:26

Hi.
I'm a new user od MuseScore. I downloaded the latest version for Mac to try it out. The playback commands are greyed out.
I'm on a Macbook Pro 2015 with the latest version of Catalina. I don't have any hardware attached and I'm trying to simply hear the audio through the built-in standard speakers.

I'm aware of this guide https://musescore.org/en/node/96811 but nothing worked. The suggestions about tweaking View/Synthesizer do not apply since that menu item (and Mixer as well) are also disabled.

I tried resetting the audio and the configurations to the default ones. I uninstalled and reinstalled the application. I even restarted the computer. I also tried downloading older versions of the software (MuseScore-3.5.2.312126096 and MuseScore-3.4.2) but still, no audio for me.

Can I get help? Thanks

Hi and thank you for the prompt response. The link you provided (I can't hear any sound - How to restore sound if playback stops working) links back to the help page https://musescore.org/en/node/96811 that I mentioned in my post:

Hi Mark, thanks for you interest.
The Mac I'm using does not have a touchbar, so no chances of hitting the "mute" button by mistake. I can hear Spotify or YouTube with no problems.
I also did the PRAM reset (restart, keep Opt + Cmd + P + R pressed) a couple of times. Again, no luck. Mixer and Synthesizer are still grey, no selectable options in the IO panel of the settings. After resetting the PRAM I tried to uninstall and reinstall the app and reset the settings. Nothing seems to work.
