first staff in a new score

How can I move the first staff to the left, so it's in line with the following ones?

Thanks! It worked, do I have to do it for each new score?
I figured out, that I could use the Jazz Lead Sheet :)

And another question: the last measure, which is the second repeat (measure 9) lands on a new line, but I want it on the first line. How can I get it up there?

To be clwar: the reason it's the default is that for most music, indenting the first system is normal and correct. Jazz lead sheets are one of the main exceptions to this, which is why this setting is turned off for that template. If you have some other specific type of music you are creating for which music is also typically presented without indenting, you can create your own template. Just set up a score how you like and save it to your Templates folder. Then it will show in the list of available templates every time you create a new score.

As for squeezing more measure one a line, first make sure you don't have a system break at the end of measure 8 that you need to remove. If you do, delete it. If not, then you can try reducing stretch - shortcut is "{". But depending how tight things are, you might also need to reduce staff size or other settings. MuseScore only puts as many measure on a system as your settings allow.

I play the accordion and have tons of sheet music in many genres (musette, klezmer, tango, jazz, folk music from various places, etc.). Only about a third (if not less) of these pieces have an indented first system, that's why I was very surprised about musescore's new default.

My implementation of that feature would have been diferent: simply add a horizontal frame before the first measure. Advantages:

  • Easy to spot, no questions like this here
  • Easy to delete, if so desired
  • Easy to size differently if needed
  • Backwards compatible, score would still have it when opened in any pre 3.6 version
  • A preferences setting for this probably not needed, so
    • less code complexity
    • less to translate
    • less 'clutter' in the style dialog

I said all that back then, but apparently got ignored or not understood

The downside of that would be there would be no easy way to change the amount of the indent globally - eg, for all sections within a score, as a style setting one can load via MSS file, etc. At least, not without complicating things by further adding more properties and settings to control whether the frame then responds to a more global setting, which would in turn invite more confusion of the sort we are seeing with the new auto size property in vertical frames.

Might still have been a worthwhile tradeoff, or maybe somehow solvable without introducing extra confusion, but I think it's not quite so simple as it might seem at first.

Whether a horiziontal frame of a certain configurable width or an indent is inserted automatically isn't making any diffence to the process itself.
But indeed with framesthese then could get their width changed individually. That in turn has pros and cons.
If not wanted it could get overcome with another style option, like done for the 'automatic size' of vertical frames, and their apparent minimum height with that option set.

I would say, though, that this is probably all accordion music, as opposed to music for any of the hundreds of other instruments. And mostly solo music as opposed to ensemble music, etc. It's important to look at the broad spectrum of music across not just different style of music for one solo instrument, but also, different instruments, different types of ensembles, etc. Not saying it isn't reasonable to do this for accordion solo music - so I encourage you to set up a score the way you personally prefer then save it to your Templates folder for easy reuse. I'm just trying to explain where the defaults come from.

Good morning (in Brazil) Jojo!

I am very grateful for the trust and invitation however, I have no command of English to be able to participate in a collaboration. Because all I get is using Google Translate.
With the intention of helping MuseScore musicians and users in Brazil, I developed this course on Udemy where I cover the main MuseScore tools:

Friendly hug!
