Noob question

I'm a first time beginner and having difficulty removing rests from my sheet music. I know it should be simple but something is tripping me up. I've read page on Note Input but still can't get it. Can somebody make a useful suggestion?

Generally speaking, you don't remove silence - you add sound. So we'd need to understand more about what you are actually trying to do in order to assist better. Feel free to attach your score and explain which rests you are wanting to remove and why.

Thank you for your reply and offer to help. Your comment about adding sound instead of removing silence is a better to think of it. I've attached my score and have several questions about it.
1. In the 19the measure there is a rest with at little grayed-out + above it. What does this mean?
2. How do I flip the stems the other direction?
3. What are the Enter/Return arrows at the end of each measure for?

Measure 19 has an extra beat, you must have used "insert" mode to add additional time to that measure. If you are now realizing you didn't want to add that time, you can now remove it by selecting the notes and/or rests representing the time you wish to remove, and hitting Ctrl+Delete.

The stem direction you have right now is correct, and MuseScore manages this automatically normally - stmes change direction when you add other voices, or beam to notes that force a different stem direction, or notation using a percussions staff with a drum drum that is supposed to have stems up. So if you do any of those things, you will find the stem directions to the right thing automatically. But in the rare cases where you have some special reason to want non-standard stem direction, pressing "X" does the job.

The Enter symbols are showing you where you have entered system breaks by hitting Enter or using the palette. or maybe you started with the sample empty score that already has these. That isn't really recommended for anything but just messing around - it's usually better to create new scores with File / New so you have an opportunity to do things like choose what instruments you want. For example, if this is meant to be an exercise for snare drum, you would have been able to choose a drum staff from the beginning, with a proper clef and the correct sound, plus the stem direction would be as it should be for snare.

I have three more questions about this score.

Two more staves of four measures each need to be added at the bottom. What is the best way to do so?

In the future, all my work will be scores of 40 measures per page, four measures to a stave. Is there a setting to make this a default?

I'd like to restart the measure numbers as I see fit, specifically change measure number 17 to 1 and continue sequentially until the end. How is this done?

To add measures, use the Add / Measure menu or equivalent shortcuts as shown in the menu.

To add breaks invidiually, use Enter of the palette. To add them every 4 bars or whatever, use Format / Add/Remove System Breaks.

There is no way to preset breaks configuration in new score,s but settings them every 4 bars takes only seconds as described above.

If you mean you want to see the measure sequence restart at one, you can either adjust this in Measure Properties, or add a section break from the Breaks & Spacers palette to the previous measure to mark then end of that section.
