Combine all voices?

• Jul 27, 2021 - 22:54

I'm trying to convert a few scores into a different file format. The biggest issue I have is that if chords have multiple voices with notes of different durations in them, they do not export properly. Is there any way to move all the notes to a single voice, and simply set the chord note durations to match that of the shortest note in the chord?

I've started doing this by hand, but it is very time-consuming: I have to scan for alternate voices, identify whether or not the notes in chords have the same duration or not, and then adjust as needed. Most music I'm trying to convert has this scattered basically everywhere. I've tried the implode feature, but it doesn't seem to do anything.

Export to MIDI
Open up that MIDI again and limit the number of voices to 1 in the import panel

Won't shorten the notes, but use ties where possible

It is not clear what you are trying to do. If you have notes of different duration sounding at the same time on one stave by definition that stave must use at least two voices. Imploding can only increase the number of voices.

Wouldn't [Tools]>[Explode] be more useful? That would place each voice on its own stave. See https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/tools#explode

If that doesn't help, please upload an example score and explain in more detail what you want to achieve.
