Note Stems Joining

Hi, I am currently working on a drum kit arrangement for a piece. When I add a bass drum beat to the note in the bar it then flips the stem of the hi-hat downwards (see image). Whether or not this is technically correct in music theory I don't know, but I've seen anything look like this and would like the top note to have an upwards stem like the rest, and the bottom not to have a downwards stem, like the rest. Any help would be appreciated.
