how to increase padding around NOTE in parentheses?

I see instructions for increasing padding around an accidental in parentheses, but can't find any way of increasing padding around a note (an alternative note in a horn part if the intended, original note is too difficult to play). Right now, it's really crammed up tight. is this possible, and if so, how? Also, is it possible to make just that one suggested alternative note smaller? Thank you for your assistance!

Hi - thank you for your reply. No, not a grace note but an alternative note, in case the hornist finds the intended note too difficult. The alternative note appears right under the intended note, not before it.

Thank you - I had it set to Voice 2 but missed Chord ? Set to small.
I would still be grateful for help with my first question, however, which is how to add padding around that note, which is in parentheses. Right now the parentheses are jammed right up against the note head. I see how to do it for accidentals, but not notes. Thanks again.
