4:5 over the barline

• Oct 16, 2021 - 19:26

Hello there,
For the past 45 minutes, I've been trying to connect a half note and an eighth note to create a 4 against 5 polyrhythm. I even tried to split the measure into 5/8 but still can't seem to write this polyrhythm. I'd love to get some help on this.

It's an awful lot of effort but you can get something that looks a bit like what you're after. You first need to create a 5/8 duration note or rest and then turn it into a 4:5 tuplet and you can do this by making a "donor" 5/8 bar. Then create a recipient bar long enough to contain however many of those tuplets you need. Then add in the barlines and tidy it up a bit. But, beware, it will all fall apart if you make certain changes, try to move things around or try copy-and-paste wrongly.
