Moving score while inserting notes

• Dec 12, 2021 - 04:27

When I'm inserting notes, I have to come out of Notes and use the touch pad to adjust the score placement. Is there a keyboard way to move the score and stay in Notes?

Thanks, everyone. <3

Wow, Jojo! You are amazing as always!

I've never paid attention to the dropdown menu by the Note button. I guess I've always used the Step-Time default.

I run out of score when entering notes and would like to move the score to a new position without unclicking the Note button. But it's not a big deal. Only a change of thought pattern more than a matter of saving time.

Thanks again, Wiz. <3

I...would like to move the score to a new position without unclicking the Note button.

While you remain in note entry mode...
Hold down the right (or left) arrow key to quickly advance (or retreat) note by note.
Hold down the Ctrl key and use the right (or left) arrow key to quickly advance (or retreat) measure by measure.
N.B.: Be mindful that you are in note input mode, so don't press an up/down arrow key - as when Ctrl is held the up/down keys change the note pitch an octave (in note entry).

If you are in a system containing multiple staves...
Hold down the Alt key and use the up (or down) arrow to move to staves above (or below). Once there, you can then move left/right on that staff as explained above.
N.B.: Be mindful.that you are in note input mode, so don't forget to use the Alt key, otherwise the plain up/down arrow keys normally move note pitch up and down (in note entry).

Also, if needed (e.g., in case of conflict problems), you can redefine these shortcut keys in Edit > Preferences > Shortcuts.

To be clear, dragging the canvas is never the recommended way to move the canvas. It works in a pinch and can occasionally be useful for moving very small distances, but is very slow and error-prone normally. The recommended method of moving the canvas is the same as in most computer programs: your mouse wheel or equivalent touch gesture (eg, two-finger swipe, with or without Shift to move horizontally or vertically). But also, the standard navigations keys like PgUp & PgDn along with the standard modifiers like Ctrl also work in the usual ways. And none of these methods require you to leave note input mode.
