Problem with changing font for chord symbols

• Feb 10, 2022 - 17:16

Hi,

I am having a problem changing the font for chord symbols. In the score I am working on, it doesn't change anything. I have tried the same on a new blank score with a single note, and it works. Is there any known condition that would prevent this to work?

By the way, changing the chord symbol font seems to change only the letters and digits, but not the musical symbols such as sharps and flats, which I believe belong to the musical font. Is there any way to change the musical symbol font for chords? The goal is to use Finale Jazz font or some equivalent to avoid any disruption while switching from Finale to MuseScore.

By the way, It is strange that using MuseJazz and MuseJazz text for the score font gives a result very similar (similar enough) to Finale Jazz for many symbols, but not at all for Chords symbols.

Thanks

I would have liked to try it on my score, but as I said, my first problem is that changing fonts for chords doesn't change anything (although it works in a separate new score with a single chord). This is why I was asking if there was something that could prevent changing the font for chords. For example, all my chord positions have been manually adjusted. So I wondered if that could be the reason.

If you Chord Symbols stem from an import (for example MusicXML) it might be that the font information is embedded into each symbol separately, overwriting the style setting.

Try selecting them all (right-click one, choose select all similar elements), then use the reset arrow button on the right of the font dropdown in the Text section of the Inspector (F8)

It wasn't that, but the wrong option for Chord symbols (in the general category, not in the Text Style category) that were "Jazz" was selected instead of "standard" (although "Jazz" might seem more logical).

But thanks anyway for pointing me to the "Select all similar elements" command, which happens to be very useful.

Not strange...
Use Format > Style > Chord Symbols and select the 'Jazz' style appearance.

Chord Symbols are a different kind of text. They often use unique formatting like superscripts or subscripts, plus they are able to be transposed along with the score.
"Normal" text (like a score title for instance) remain the same regardless to what key the score may be transposed.
BTW: People have been known to enter chord symbols as "normal" text and then wonder why transposition doesn't work or why the sharp and flat signs don't look "genuine".
