Can you show courtesy clef only on one staff during an instrument change?

Hi everyone,

I'm working on a big Video Game Medley, and I'm including quite a few instrument switches in it, both in the Lead part, as well as a few of the reed parts. The only problem is that changing instruments (both with the same key, like Bb Soprano Sax to Bb Tenor Sax, and with different keys, like C flute to Eb Baritone Saxophone) adds a key signature to every staff in the score (at that bar). I've only gotten to get it to work once, which I'll show below.

In this picture, I start on a Bb Soprano sax (in the lead line) and switch to an Eb Baritone Sax. What I want to happen (and does happen in this photo) is for the courtesy clef to only affect that one staff.

In this picture, I start on an Eb Baritone Sax, (in the lead/Bari line) and switch to a Bb Tenor Sax. What I want to happen is for the courtesy clef to only affect that one staff. Instead, it affects all staves in the score, as shown in the violin line.

I've also attached an excerpt of the medley, with a few key changes in the Lead line, and one in Reed 3. There are quite a few more in the full medley, which is still ongoing.

Thanks!

To add a key signature for one staff only, hold Ctrl while adding it. Note however that in general this isn't needed, the key signature should be added automatically when you add the instrument change, in current versions of MuseScoee (older ones did not). However, it also seems this only works when changing to a transposing instrument. if you change to a concert pitch instrument, no key change is inserted, at least that's what I'm seeing. So you'd need to use the Ctrl method if changing to flute.

Hi Marc, thanks for your reply. The problem I'm having is that when I change instruments, a new key signature appears for that staff, and the key signature is re-stated for all the other ones as well (And yes, I did do it while holding control). While Musescore does create a new key signature when changing instruments, it's not consistent in changing to the right one. For example, I'm writing a part of this medley in Eb (So a Bb instrument is playing in F), and I'm trying to switch from a Bb Soprano to an Eb Baritone. When I did that the first few times, instead of changing to C for the bari, it instead switched to D, with 2 sharps.

Here's a screenshot of it happening. The top line is a Tenor Sax, followed by Bari, Drums, Piano, and Lead, which switches from Bb soprano to Eb Bari. Key sig. should switch from F (1 flat) to C (0 flats/sharps), but goes to D. Also, as you can see, the key signatures are re-stated before the end of the page (on the left), when the lead is switching instruments. I'd like to not have that happen, and instead just have it change at the beginning of the page on the right. I think I might just play around with custom key signatures, and apply it just to that line, but I don't know what's gonna happen.

(Circled key signature should be identical, as it's the same instrument in the same key)

Thanks again,
Rob

Well, that solved one issue. Going through my score, I've re-changed my instruments, and key signature are no longer an issue. However, I still haven't found a way to not have the key signature show up at the end of one page, and only show on one staff on the second page.

This is essentially what I want to do. Instead of having the key signatures appear at the end of the page, I just want the only part that's changing to have its new key.

Edit: I imagine some people will suggest making the other key signatures invisible, as that's what I initially thought as well, but visibility affects all the staves of the score.

Thanks,
Rob

It looks like it's working now mostly, the only time (so far) that I have an issue with is when changing from a Bb instrument (playing in F/concert Eb) to an Eb instrument (playing in C/concert Eb). I would prefer to have a natural sign to show that it changes, but other than that, it's working much better. And yes, I did switch the option to show natural signs when changing keys.

Thanks!
