Drum Set Playback

• Apr 15, 2022 - 18:53

When playing the score, the drum set is playing a 'piano' sound. When I change the instrument through stave properties, it alters the notation so not a possible fix. I cant seem to explain how or why this has happened as it is only occurring on some of my scores.

Hard to say from just a picture - if you attach your actual score we can say better. But my guess is, you entered the notation incorrectly in an effort to fool MuseScore into displaying piano music as if it were drum music. Now that's an actual drum staff, you'll probably need to correct the notation. See the Handbook section on drum notation to learn the correct method for entering drum notes.

If you need further assistance, also attach your score.

I’m also having the same problem. When I check the Drumkit option in Mixer, it moves the pitches on the drum notation staff resulting in nonsense sounds.

The drums play perfectly in other music xml reading software which uses standard drum notation.

However, I cannot get the drums to play normally in MuseScore.

When I load your MusicXML file, the drumset staff already has the drumset box checked, and it already plays drum sounds - sounds like a guica and timbales at the beginning? If those aren't the sounds you intended, then it seems this score does not use standard General MIDI percussions mapping. If you are using other software that uses non-GM sound assignments and plays this as you expect, you'd need to find a soundfont that does uses those same mappings and use that soundfont with MuseScore.
