Tied Notes
I'm not sure why, but I can't tie two quarter notes together and change the pitch of each individual note. If I go to change the pitch, both notes change. Any suggestions?
Edit: I can't slur anything together if it means I have to change the pitch?

Ties only makes sense for notes of the same pitch. It is used to extend the duration of notes by tying another of the same pich without re-articulating.
You probably need a slur which looks similar but indicates a legato transition between notes of different pitches.

Yes, it was slurs versus ties. Thank you. Solved.
As you know, a slur and a tie are two different things. If you want a slur between two notes of different pitches, select the first note and hit "s".
Because when you connect two notes, the durations of these two (or more) notes are added together and it becomes like a single note.
In this case, you cannot change the pitch of each tied note separately, because both are combined into a single pitch and the total duration is increased.
What do you actually want to do?
