No Sound on Snare Drum Problem.
Hi,
I am having a strange problem with 3.6.2.
In a Midi file, I have 3 percussion instruments, one is a concert snare drum which works fine when the file is played.
If I change that drum to an MDL snare the notes do not sound for some reason.
Steps to reproduce:-
Select Stave/Part Properties, Change instrument, Common, Marching Band, Percussion Marching, Snare Drum, click OK, and apply.
The score changes to Snare Drum, press play but there is no sound from the Snare Drum but the rest of the score plays normally.
I have checked in the Synth to make sure the sound fonts are loaded and all seems well.
So at this point, I am at a loss to see what is wrong.
I have included the midi file.
Hopefully, some kind person can assist in solving this problem?
Thanks,
Martin

That's not surprising; MDL is not compatible with the General MIDI standard. You should add the MDL snare as a separate instrument and re-enter the notes. Probably there would be a way to copy the part in then adjust each of the pitches if you know their MIDI pitch values, but it's probably easier to re-enter in most cases.
Hmm...
Are you sure about the MuseScore Drumline (MDL)?
See: https://musescore.org/en/node/273835
Have you actually downloaded and used it?
If you are still working on creating a drum part for The Yellow Rose of Texas, and then making a midi file for your Tyros, consider using the basic drum notation already built into MuseScore:
https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/drum-notation
As an example, I have opened your attached midi file in MuseScore and, instead of using 3 separate percussion instruments, I chose a drumset. Then I entered your rhythm patterns (also added a melody line to hear how everything sounds).
Since your file has neither melody nor lyrics, I took a guess about your beginning intro.
Here's the MuseScore result:

Once the drum track gets notated in MuseScore the way you want, it's easy to export as a midi file. (File > Export...). The melody can be muted in the mixer if only the drums are needed in the exported midi. Your Tyros should be able to play such a midi file. It is GM compatible.
(Realize that a midi file is not the same as a "style" file - as mentioned in your other post.)

Hi Guys,
Thanks very much for the replies.8-))
Marc that is very helpful!
JM6, Yes, I have downloaded Drumline and used it, possibly not correctly yet.
I have removed the melody instruments because they actually played the song whereas I was trying to make a basic style, which I did manage to do after converting the midi to a style.
Although that was not very good and still needs a lot of work.
It also needs some other instruments to make the style sound decent.
Of course, I will be playing the melody line myself.
I am not happy with the extent of the snare drum roll so that was what I was attempting to correct first.
The snare drum sounds a bit like a machine gun sound to me so I will need to see what I can do to smooth that out.
Yes, I will try the basic drum notation and see how that sounds, also the score is repeated so I can use a loop instead of having so much repetitiveness.
Thanks very much for taking the effort to add the melody line it sounds pretty good!!

As an experiment, I downloaded the MDL extension. After it loaded, MuseScore promptly crashed. After restarting, I followed your instructions and, sure enough, there was no sound for the snare. However, from the change instruments window you can go to common, unpitched percussion, MDL drumset. That loads the MDL snare and has the proper roll sound. MDL makes my MuseScore take forever to start. I probably won't keep it unless I can change the format.

The long startup times are a long time known issue (and a royal pain), rendering MDL largely useless (at least for me)

Hi Bob and JoJo,
Aha! you have both found the same problems as I did, crashing and very slow startup.
Thanks for the advice regarding the MDL drum set I will try that.8-))

And interestingly enough I am unable to install MDL after after uninstalling it.

Yes, it's a known problem that unless your internet connection is crazy fast, the download will time out. So you need to download and install the extension manually.
