adding a new font

• Jun 9, 2020 - 21:00

Hi there, I want to edit notes with musescore, but with a different note-font other than the SMuFL ones that are built in into the binary. please add a feature that allows importing a new font-style.
if the fear is from UX, I recommend making this feature with a warning to users.
another alternative is maybe making it available only by a plugin-API call, also usable.
thanks!

The (well, at least one and the main) reason for to allowing external Musical fonts is that then you'd have to deliver the font along with the score for it to look the same on another computer, and that this won't be possible at all on musescore.com.
Also the license/copyright issues that may go along with that need to be taken into account.

There's one additional font waiting to get added though. see https://musescore.org/en/node/295588 and https://github.com/musescore/MuseScore/pull/5381

SMuFL isn't a thing you install, its the international standard for music fonts. So MuseScore already supports SMuFL, and provides a variety of music fonts compatible with that standard to choose between (see Format / Style / Score).

If you explain more detail what the actual problem ist hat you are trying to solve, we can understand and assist better.

Soundfonts are completely different from notation fonts; SMuFL has nothing to do with it. Instead, the relevant standard is called General MIDI, but MuseScore can actually handle non/standard soundfonts too. For info on how to install and use them, just see the soundfonts section of the Handbook. And if you have further questions after reading that, best to start a new thread.
