Support of Quarter tone accidentals

• Jan 12, 2010 - 19:08

Sometimes I have dabbled in composing with quarter tones, and It would be nice if MuseScore supported more quarter tone tuning options. It is already possible to tune an individual note in Musescore up or down a quartertone. However, the various quarter tone accidental graphics that Musescore offers are ignored during playback of a score. Enabling the correct playback of these accidentals would be helpful. Also, adding the ability to tune the playback of an entire stave (or several) up or down a quarter tone would be useful. Then, for example, one could correctly playback a score of Charles Ives quarter tone works for two pianos, where one piano is tuned a quarter tone apart from the other.

Thanks, JW

About this, it is probably better to replicate a remark I made elsewhere but was not evident as a suggestion / feature request.

For plugins to be able to access score microtonal info (if any), the Note object should expose more members than it does now.

A possible suggestion is the datum which is now written in the .mscx file under the tag <userAccident>; but any other equivalent solution would be good enough.

Incidentally, also about the Note object, can any of the developers check which is the current status of the "name" member of the Note object? In ver. 0.9.5, it returns a string related with the pitch and not with the name (for instance, both a C# and e Db return the same name "c#..."; a C## or a Ebb return "d..."; and so on); I cannot check 0.9.6 pre-release because of a bug in the Chord object (so I cannot get to a Note!).

Thanks,

M.
