Should be the case if you use the special palette. But, you can also set them above as a style preference. Just set one above and then hit the "S" button next to the setting in the Inspector.

Not sure what you mean by "permanently". If you followed the steps I described and it didn't work, please attach your score and give precise steps to reproduce the problem Then we can understand and advise further.
