I'm trying to write a divisi violin part and have not been able to find a way to do it in a way where the bracket around the staves is only there when the part is visible. If I uncheck "always show brackets for single staff" then I don't get any single brackets, but if it's checked and I use a staff that's always hidden except when it has notes then I get a bracket around the violin part all the time even when it's not divisi.
I've found some people reporting similar issues in the past but never this one, which is surprising because I think this is the standard—I just checked a few random scores I had bookmarked and had no trouble finding examples that would be impossible to replicate, since they both have divided string parts with a bracket that is only there temporarily but have single brackets on other groups.
Examples:
Tchaikovsky Pathetique
Ravel Left Hand Concerto

OK, you just can't have a bracked for a single-staff "F Horn 1 & 3", but not have it for "Violins 1".
As far as I can tell this is by design and unavoidable

I don't understand why this would be an intentional interaction; I see temporary brackets in scores all the time (I would even go so far as to say it's uncommon to see divisi parts on separate staves without them) so it's weird that there would be no way to notate them.

I encourage you to test this using a current build of MuseScore 4, which has changed some of this in ways that might be useful. And if you continue to have concerns, be sure to submit them as issues on GitHub, which is where MsueScore 4 is being tracked.
