4/4 measure with only 3 1/2 beats
Here's a problem I've never had with any Musescore version before. I have a measure right in the middle of a 4/4 score with only 3 1/2 beats. How could this happen and how do I best fix it? See the attached file at bar 142. I notice there is a little dot above the bar line between bars 142 and 143, but I don't recognize that or know what it is all about.

Select the excess beat and press Ctrl+Del

Jojo, there is no excess beat. The problem is that there is one less half-beat than there should be. i.e. The measure only allows 3 1/2/ beats.

In a 4/4 measure that is 2/4 or 1/2 too much
Based on the attached score, it seems like m.142 is corrupted. Right clicking and going into the measure properties dialogue shows that the value of the measure displayed (7/8) is less than it is supposed to be (hence the little minus sign above the measure). Try deleting the entire measure and adding another from scratch, which is what usually helps me.

Thanks so much for the fix. I'm pretty sure that will work. I was wondering if there were a fix that would keep me from having to redo the whole measure. I realize I could add a measure to the side of the corrupted measure, copy the corrupted measure from top to bottom, then paste the notes into the added measure and that would not be too hard, but I was wondering if there was a simple thing to do in case this should happen again.

The fix you came up with is what works for me most of the time, so that's what I do. However, there are resources in the online handbook if that doesn't always work or if you'd like more information.

Actually, I just did that and it worked just fine. Thanks so much. Unless this is a common problem, it would not be worth anyone's time in working on this
