Project
  1. Create a full orchestra score with Muse Sounds instrumentation, with trombone parts included.
  2. Use a variety of dynamic markings, particularly for the brass family, and trombones in particular.
  3. Play back full texture, or select brass and play back, or select just trombone and play back

You will notice that the trombone part when the dynamic is set at piano barely sounds. When the dynamic is set at mezzo forte or forte, the bump in sound is negligible.

  1. Open the Mixer and play back. You will see that the level for the trombone is drastically lower than the other instruments at the same dynamic level.

  2. In the mixer, adjust the volume of the trombone part. The change in output and sound is negligible.

My workaround for this has been to switch back to MSBasic sounds for the trombones, because in this state the trombones are unusable for playback.

Comments

I have the same issue. Makes hearing brass harmonies very difficult as I keep needing to adjust the dynamics back and forth.

An absolute killer for my score that is a full orchestration when MS4 inexplicably mutes the trombones and tuba on some notes, some bars, some dynamics. I can't see any pattern to it. I can hear that it is trying to play all of the notes, but in the section that prompted me to comment here I am using ff and it varies from ff to ppp or less on playback. Bass trombone and Tuba have identical problem. Bassoon and contrabasses play same notes perfectly, It's really frustrating because MS is so good in most other areas. Many thanks, Philip Williams.
