Musescore 4 has a MIDI problem
I attached a midi keyboard to my computer, but it doesn't work. It's not just like Musescore 3 where you can just have it attached before you go in the app. I'm going to need some help to try and connect my MIDI and make it work in Musescore 4.
Comments
In theory it should be as easy as in MuseScore 3, at least it is on my system.
Connect before starting the application, and it should work.
If not, you can check in the Preferences->I/O which MIDI Input device has been selected by MuseScore and change it there if needed. And also make sure MIDI Input is enabled (see https://musescore.org/en/handbook/4/playback-controls#Enable_MIDI_input).
If that does not help, please post what is/or isn't working and we'll take it from there.

Not the original poster, but it sounds like myproblem.
Details.
Midi keyboard: Keylab 88 mk 2.
Works with:
Preferences => Midi Mappings.
* All inactive
Preferences => I/O
* Audio device System Default. Have also tried Audient ID 14, line out, and internal speakers. My normal use is to push everything back through the ID 14.
* Buffer 1024
* Midi input Keylab mkII 88 DAW. This matches the keylab setting.
* Midi output: No device.
Checking out the link above, I found this:
Enable MIDI input
Enable MIDI input to write music to your score with a linked MIDI device (such as a keyboard or drum machine) during playback. See Working with Midi for details.
That didn't work either.
Checking note entry was also not fruitful.
What else can I tell you to help you solve this problem?

Not sure what the difference is. So listing my setup here and actions here.
In the I/O settings;
Start Note Entry (press N)
Hit keys on the keyboard and the notes appear in the score and sound is played.
Exit Note Entry (press ESC)
Hit keys on the keyboard and sound is played.
I don't remember if I changed any setting on my keyboard, believe I did not.
On my system I have two Arturia midi devices listed, the second one is named MIDIIN2 (Arturia KeyLab Essential). When I select this, the Note Entry does not work and no sound as well.

Does it have to be a new score every time?
In reply to Does it have to be a new… by sgbotsford
No it does not. Just tried the following:
I had to reselect the correct Midi Input device as I the last time (during testing) I changed it to the MIDIIN2 device which is not working.
I have now also checked the Device Settings for the keyboard using the Arturia MIDI Control Center.
In Global Parameter I have the following settings:
User Midi Channel: 1
Vegas Mode: Disable (previously this was enabled but got annoyed by the flashing lights in idle mode)
DAW Mode: Mackie Control
DAW Fader Mode: Pickup
Keys Velocity Curve: Lin
Pads Velocity Curve: Lin
Hope this helps.
For me it works on the first score that opens in MuseScore, but if you open a second window, only the first window works with MIDI. Even if you close the first window it still doesn't work with the second window. It's like the MIDI input gets locked to the first score you open and can't transfer to any other window. In the Edit > Preferences > Audio & MIDI I'm unable to select the MIDI input on the second window. (But my MIDI device is already selected on the first window).
OS: Windows 10 Version 2009 or later, Arch.: x86_64, MuseScore Studio version (64-bit): 4.4.2-242570931, revision: 3130f97

Today I started a new score and was able to input notes with my Alesis Q25 midi keyboard. However after playing the entered notes I was ubable to enter any more. I tried opening a new score but the midi input still failed and the alesis was not recognised!
