Change Volume for Part of Staff
Is it possible to change the volume for an instrument in a certain part of the staff? I have a staff for rock organ which sounds suitably gloomy, but it overwhelms the violin when that instrument comes in. I would like to turn down, but not off the rock organ at that point.
I could make two staffs for rock organ and have each play only in certain sections with set volumes, but I am hopeful there is a more elgant way.
MuseScore version 3.6.2.
Thanks

Use dynamics. See:

So, make a certain part quieter, then change it back to normal.
(Default is mf )

Thanks, very useful. It would be nice if you could specify exactly what fff means, but that is not part of musical notation. Some programs, like Reaper and Camtasia, allow you to section off a certain part of the score itself and then increase or decrease the volume. I think that would require a whole new dimension of functionality for MuseScore, though. MuseScore makes notes, it doesn't touch the staffs themselves.
I also realized that what I wanted to change was the volume of the chords, not the notes themselves. Accordingly I added the same chords to the violin section as the rock organ chords, which added another column to the mixer. I then removed the chords for the rock organ for that section. This allowed me to set a different volume for the rock organ, adjusting the column for the violin. The only tricky part is that when you remove the first set of chords you have to add one more chord to the first set, and use the Inspector to uncheck "Play", otherwise the last chord in the first set keeps playing.

Here's a table showing assigned velocity values for MuseScore dynamics markings:

In any event, in MuseScore 3, the (default) velocity of a selected dynamic may be changed in the Inspector.

I found an example I had of a volume increase using crescendo:

(also contains accelerando)

That's a good start. At present you can do more with Mu3.6.2 than with Mu4 in this area.

Yes, in Mu3 you can declare the Dynamic Range of a specific dynamic marking in the Inspector as "Part" (default), as "System" (all instruments), or as "Staff" (one staff of a keyboard or harp).
