Save new file - put's the file always in the same old destination.

• Oct 26, 2024 - 15:03

I am typing multiple files in muse score, and want to have all those in a particular place on the file system.
Yet, every time I save a new file, it gets to do that in the default directory. From where I need to navigate into my directory structure.

Is this behaviour changeable, or is this a lack of feature? In many programs, on same behaviour, wherever one saves a file, the next time one does the same - the default safe directory is where the last file was saved.

Here my system:
OS: Fedora Linux 40 (Workstation Edition), Arch.: x86_64, MuseScore Studio version (64-bit): 4.4.3-242971445, revision: eb6b367

Try File>Save as. This opens a dialogue that allows you to chose a destination directory and/or a new file name.

File>Save (without the as) does not give you that option.

This works the same as many (all?) other applications. Certainly Word, Excel, Adobe Reader, all work that way.

I just that this:

  1. finished a new file and saved it into my project directory.
  2. Crtl+N for a new file. Wrote sth in it.
  3. Ctrl+Shift+S / also I tried with File>Safe as..

Same result - it keeps wanting to save it into the default destination/dir.

Again, my problem is that MuseScore keeps asking to save new files into the old/original default destination, and I always have to navigato to whee my project is. Other SW, remember that place of the last-saved-file and next new file, can be directly saved in this directory.

my default dir is: /home/$USER/Documents/MuseScore4/Scores
my project dir is sth like: /home/$USER/myProjects/MuseScore/Current_Proejct/

It never remembers I work in the second path, and wish it could save me the time to switch around directories every time I save new files.

Under Edit>Preferenes>General the option is called "Start with score: " (see attachment)
meaning to open always some default score. Weird but fine :)

I now set my default score folder to the project dir through: Edit>Preferenes>Folders
Which seems to work.
Kind of work around, but actually does the magic to save me time when working on one project.

Thank you!

Thanks - that I got w the time. See my posts above.

My initial question was, if there was a feature, which than remmembers the new save destination (after a save). Many programs do that nowadays.
And if not, can we have this on the MS road map? For when working with multiple projects, it's takes much time to switch between sub-trees.

I don't know if Linux works the same way Windows does. But in MU4...

"finished a new file and saved it into my project directory.
Crtl+N for a new file. Wrote sth in it.
Ctrl+Shift+S / also I tried with File>Safe as.."

It seems as though you are expecting a new file to be saved in the same directory that you last saved something to. I don't think Windows, in MU4 at least, does that.

"Save" will return a file in progress to the directory it came from. Or a new file to the default location. This is regardless of where you last saved something to.

"Save As" should give you the opportunity to go to the directory of your choice.
