Incorrect Key Signatures Appearing in Parts

• Jan 22, 2023 - 04:56

The score and parts are not showing the same thing. I may have messed around with the key signatures but deleted them in the score. The score shows that they are correct and plays fine. When I generate the parts, it leaves the deleted changes in. I have all but the alto part hidden in the score, which shows no key signature changes. The alto part has extraneous changes, which I do not want. The other instruments have the same issue as well; the alto is just an example. Can someone help?

Did this ever get resolved? I have exactly the same issue. I tried to put atonal scores into the horn in D part, but re-visiting the issue when I started working on the horn in f part, I must have changed all of the signatures in the piece. I went through the entire score and put right all of the key signatures. Then I went back to editing the Contrabass part, and saw that the part does not really resemble the score. I have at least corrected the part to reflect the correct key signature, but I am now left with multiple key changes (to the same key!) and I am unable to delete them!

Ahhh. Yes that information would help! Sorry, I thought I had added the info in, but on reflection, clearly not. Mvmt. III Rehearsal Mark C (Bar 151) the key changes back to Bb maj. I am looking specifically at the contrabass part though it might be the case in other parts. 2 bars rest then key signature change, 10 bars later, same again... and on and on till the end of the piece.

Are you sure this is the correct score? Rehearsal mark C is at bar 333 and I see no key change there in the score or in the contrabass part, nor do I see 2 bars rest in the contrabass part. I don't see those things at bar 151 either.

I also note that your clarinets have a key signature that would be appropriate for clarinet in A rather than Bb that is shown as the instruments name and the part properties show a transposition of down a major 2nd - i.e the clarinets are in Bb. If the flutes have 2 sharps, the clarinets in Bb should have 4 sharps. Clarinet in A would have one flat. According to the key signatures they seem to change from Bb to A instruments at bar 279 but there is no instrument change shown.

Most confusing!

I think most of your first paragraph confusion would be cleared up if you were looking at the correct movement!!

I am using separate Clarinet in A and Bb parts because in spite of the fact that most orchestral clarinets use both and swap whilst playing a single piece, sometimes within a movement, I haven't managed to achieve that in MuseScore AND maintain the correct playback sound. The first movement played through correctly when I completed it, however since then, I made the aforementioned error of changing the horn parts into C major as opposed to an atonal key signature, so I have been going back to (try to) remove all the random key signatures that have popped up in the parts (but not the score).

I have since found that if I put notes into the bars with random key signature changes I am able to the delete the random key signature and then the note. Occasionally the key signature does not delete and I can drag and drop the correct signature onto it. See before and after pics below.

OK. I think we are (literally) on the same page now.

If you are using V 4.1 you may be experiencing one of these bugs that were fixed in V 4.2 https://github.com/orgs/musescore/projects/27/views/1?filterQuery=key+s…. By "fixed", I mean that Musescore should not now produce new scores with that problem but the problems will probably persist in scores that were created in the bugged version unless they are manually fixed using the debugged Musescore version.

Of course there is a reason! I have been working on this score mainly on my work PC after work and I have to get someone with admin rights to approve the update every time, so I only do that when I have someone already doing something else work-related to my PC. I also use my iMac at home which is fully updated, but have not used it on this score,
