MuseScore: Full of Bugs, Unreliable, and No Customer Support – A Major Disappointment

• Nov 24, 2024 - 21:32

Apologies, but this software is terrible. It's full of bugs and makes no sense. MuseScore team, please do a better job next time you release a product.

Let's not even talk about the fact that every time you exit and return to the software window, it resets the shortcut settings (I've tried it on three different computers—same issue every time).

MuseSounds works sometimes, sometimes it doesn’t, and there's no rhyme or reason to it. Want an example? I opened two files side by side: one had MuseSounds working, the other didn’t. Both had exactly the same settings. I closed the software, reopened it, and now MuseSounds doesn’t work in the first file either. We've tried everything—switching users, uninstalling and reinstalling, adding and removing files—and nothing fixes the issue in a stable way. We contacted the company, and they said they don’t offer customer support. In short, it’s terrible software. Stay away.

Interesting. I think we need a little more information in order to help.

What kind of shortcut settings did you have reset? Did you change existing settings or add new ones. I've not changed any. But I've added some and had no trouble retaining them,

What do you mean by two files side by side? Which method did you use? What do you mean by Muse Sounds not working? What was working?

Re-install seldom works.

What company did you contact?

Sorry for all the questions. But if you want help, we need some details.

Thank you for your response,

I downloaded Muse Hub and then MuseScore 4 to my computer. I also downloaded Muse Sounds, and they worked for me in one session. After that, they stopped working (leaving only MS Basic). I tried everything I could and invested nearly 5 hours into solving this issue (uninstalling and reinstalling the software, changing the file locations, adding bin files, and more).

When none of these worked, I reinstalled the software on a different user account on the computer. I opened a new file there, and Muse Sounds appeared. At the same time, I opened the software with a file I had worked on in the other user account (sent it to myself via email). Side by side, in the same user account, Muse Sounds worked in the new file but not in the old one. I closed the software and restarted it, and now even in the new file on the new user account, Muse Sounds stopped working. I can’t seem to find any logic or consistency behind this issue. I would appreciate help in stabilizing Muse Sounds recognition so I can use the software properly.

Regarding keyboard shortcuts: I noticed this is a common bug in the software (it happened to me on three different computers, and I also saw forum discussions about it). The keyboard shortcuts stop working, and only after re-entering a shortcut (e.g., Ctrl-C), the rest of the shortcuts start working again. However, if I leave the program’s window and switch to another one (e.g., Chrome), after a few times, the shortcuts stop working again. I then have to re-enter a specific shortcut (e.g., Ctrl-C) to make all other shortcuts work again. If you have a solution for this, I’d appreciate it.
