0.9.5 Crash and MSCZ corruption on Subtitle Edit
A Duet
2 Cornet parts.
Very small one page arrangement with one double time bar repeat
I had finished it.... I had been saving manually throughout
No dynamics or hairpins or slurs had been added.
Very Basic.
I added a subtitle
I edited the subtitle
Musescore Crashed.....
Funnily enough the duet was " the sound of silence" by Paul Simon
When I went back to the file Named
SILENCE.mscz
I get a blank page :( ::::::::::::::::::::
When I try to open the SILENCE.mscz archive I get this
[/home/john/Scores/SILENCE.mscz]
End-of-central-directory signature not found. Either this file is not
a zipfile, or it constitutes one disk of a multi-part archive. In the
latter case the central directory and zipfile comment will be found on
the last disk(s) of this archive.
zipinfo: cannot find zipfile directory in one of /home/john/Scores/SILENCE.mscz or
/home/john/Scores/SILENCE.mscz.zip, and cannot find /home/john/Scores/SILENCE.mscz.ZIP, period.

I am sorry for your frustrating experience with MuseScore. I think your file is too short to contain something useful :-(
Please look for backup and temporary files in your current directory. Backup files start with a dot and are hidden in normal directory views. Temp files have some random chars/numbers in them and have no extension. Rename the files to something.mscz and try to open them.

thanks... I had a look about.
I do appreciate the empathy ! :)
Just as well it was a simple compo..... Some strong coffee and I will start again.... Best way to learn... do things over and over again ! :)
0.9.3 was very stable.... but I upgraded for the transposing instrument support... and then to 0.9.5 to fix 0.9.4 when it broke.
Here's to 0.9.6 !
Mean time.... back to the sound of silence...
"hello darkness my old friend"
I don't know if it helps but I cut and paste the subtitle from a wiki page (giving the composer full credit) .... That how I usually work....
Create the score.....
Add title , composer, arranger, subtitle
Then go through the whole score adding dynamics
finished.

Side note:
Version 0.9.5 is still under development and has not been released yet. You are using an early prerelease version of 0.9.5
In reply to Side note: Version 0.9.5 is by David Bolton
Im happy to continue testing 0.9.5 (have found some bugs in the time using it)
But in order to continue testing it... I need to get it working again..... See my 'reinstall 0.9.5 post'
In reply to Im happy to continue testing by its_jon
If you add titile/subtitle on to existing score in 0.9.5, MuseScore will crash when you save it.
But you can avoid this by add anything in the wizard dialogue while you create a new score, then edit them after. MuseScore will save your document properly.
Workaround for existing untitled score: create a new score with any title with the same structure as the old one. Open both then copy over the notations from old to new, edit new title text as you liked.

Thanks..... how do I reinstall 0.9.5 now.
I will avoid this bug now.... but only if I can get Musescore to work at all.
I have downgrade to 0.9.2 and back up to 0.9.5 ..... still the playpanel bug... no movement.. etc
complete fresh install.... ho is it done on Ubuntu ibex 64bit ?
In reply to Thanks..... how do I reinstall 0.9.5 by its_jon
I'm on Ubuntu 8.10 64bit, MuseScore works great!
I started using it from 0.9.4, install from ppa repository, then upgraded to 0.9.5. I think it better than 0.9.4 in terms of pre defined templates. I'm not a professional of music, I just use it for my choir practicing. I never use any score software before. I just get so excited when I google and found it.
I still keep my 0.9.4 on my virtual machine which is XP, in case something goes wrong while I'm testing the latest version. You can always save your score as xml format to share among the different versions.
For playback, did you change the Alsa default device to hw:0 in I/O tab as other post mentioned? That's solve the play issue. I also tried the JACK audio server, it works too.

The trouble is I was unlucky enough to stumble over 2 big bugs in 0.9.4 and 0.9.5
(depends on how you use the app weather you trigger them or not)
Both 0.9.4 and 0.9.5 were working perfectly (bit slow compared to Sibelius but its early days)
The last bug that hit 0.9.5 also hit 0.9.4 ..... The only way to fix 0.9.4 was the 0.9.5 update.
Now the same bug has hit 0.9.5 and its unusable again.
ALSA is already selected.... Pulse is completely disabled on my system. It had to be to get any sound at all from my soundcard which is a rareish 24bit studio job thingy.
Unless someone can confirm otherwise I think the Bug has corrupted an external config file which is not being deleted on uninstall of Musescore. The fresh 0.9.5 install appears to be reading this as it starts.
I fully uninstalled Musescore using
sudo apt-get autoremove --purge mscore
Then reinstalled MuseScore 0.9.5 ..... It launches in the same broken state.... My system wide midi or sound settings have never changed.
Im not grumbling.... Just concearned that I can't continue to use/test or contribute feedback until I get it working again

I was unable to reproduce the crash reported above by renm concerning adding titles to an existing score.
Windows XP, r.1552
with 0.9.5 under Ubuntu 8.10
The crash is systematic; the corruption (exactly the same) is not.
I noticed that when I create the subtitle it does not present itself with the style configured for it....
My files are available if requested
I take good notice to feed the subtitle when creating the score.
is that version out??? wow, I have not heard of it!!!!
and it works for Ubuntu, just bu clicking,
is available in
https://launchpad.net/~mscore-ubuntu/+archive/ppa
I just add it as a "signet" (the french word, = markup?) in Firefox
the Ubuntu packages for Synaptic doesn't follow

No ! 0.9.5 is not out!
The files labeled 0.9.5 in ubuntu PPA or in http://prereleases.musescore.org/windows are prereleases. So they are test version = unstable = use with care. The current stable version is 0.9.4 and the development for 0.9.5 is undergoing. So please, don't tell 0.9.5 is out because it's wrong! I guess we need to figure out a better naming for version ...
